RSS Starter Kit

Ready for RSS? (If you're not yet convinced, check our page on "What is RSS?" to learn why you might want to get started.)

To use RSS you'll need a news aggregator or news reader. To help you get started, we've developed a series of tutorials to take you through the process of setting up Google Reader — a free, online news reader — and to show you some of its features.

We've also set up a list of important news sources for environmental health to get you started. (To skip straight to the OPML file, right click here and save the file to your desktop.) You'll import that list by following the tutorial below.

 

(Note: The tutorial below will walk you through Google Reader, but if you prefer another news reader, there are many other options. A popular free, web-based news aggregator is Bloglines. Many software news readers are available; for MacOS, we recommend NetNewsWire (not free) and NetNewsWire Lite (free). For Windows, try Feedreader (free), SharpReader (free), and many others.)

Want to stay up to date on current research without clogging your email inbox? This tutorial will show you how to set up a Pubmed feed for a keyword of your choice. Here, we'll use "PBDE", so anytime Pubmed receives a new article on PBDEs it will appear in your aggregator.
